Labor Day Deals:
Apparel: Labor day is a great time to grab deals on summer clothing. Most stores have their own discounts, but you can expect to see up to 75% off at some stores, such as Belk and Gap Factory. Stores such as Old Navy and JC Penney are offering up to 50% off.
Large Appliances: If you’re looking to upgrade your large appliances, Labor Day is a great time to do so. Home Depot is offering up to 40% off select appliances and Lowe’s is having a similar sale. Don’t forget about Best Buy. Sometimes they offer deals with their sales, such as gift cards worth up to $300 with the purchase of some large appliances.
Mattresses: Close to Labor Day stores such as Big Lots, Macy’s, and JC Penney start offering great deals on mattresses. Even Home Depot is getting in on the deal this year.
Best Deals All Month
Summer craft supplies and home decor: Craft stores are starting to put their summer crafts and home decor items on sale. Micheal’s is having a huge sale with prices up to 80% off! Be sure to check Hobby Lobby and Joann for discounted summer items, too. Also, Kirkland’s (my favorite store!) has home decor and candles deeply discounted right now.
Work-from-home gear: A lot of people are still working from home right now and most students are doing school virtually from home. Look for discounts on monitors and laptops as well as cheap Chromebooks. Save more at Best Buy by signing up for Student Deals.
Back to school supplies: Normally August is the best month for these deals, however, this year looks a lot different for back to school. Since a lot of parents are unsure about when exactly school is starting back, we can expect back to school supplies to have even deeper discounts this month. Some office supply stores such as Staples and Office Depot/Office Max could have discounts as high as 90% off. Don’t forget about Target and Walmart for discounts on back to school supplies, too.
Cars: Car companies start releasing new models in September, so older models will be going on sale. You may not get all the latest and greatest updates, but you’ll be saving thousands on a new car. If you’re shopping for a car, September is a great month to buy an older model.
Bikes: Prices tend to drop on items when they are in low demand and bikes are no exception. Not a lot of people are riding bikes in the winter. But September is a great time to grab a great deal on a bike for next year. Also, think kids’ Christmas gifts!
Coffee: National Coffee Day is September 29! Be sure to watch out for freebies and deals on coffee at places such as 7-Eleven, Barnes & Noble, Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme, and Sheetz.
In-season produce: Fruits to buy in September are apples, cantaloupe, grapes, tomatoes, figs, mangoes, pomegranates, and persimmons. Fresh vegetables include corn, eggplant, green beans, butternut squash, cauliflower, lettuce, peppers, pumpkins, spinach, sweet potatoes, okra, and mushrooms.
Don’t forget about the recent onion and peach recall. Because of these recalls, this is a great time to support your local farmers so you know exactly where your fresh produce is coming from.
What’s on your shopping list this month? Are you looking for anything that’s on this list? Do you have other items that should go on the best things to buy in September list?
I’ll be looking for the coffee deals for sure! Thank you for all the research you do for these posts! Outstanding!

Load up on coffee ?
Yes, definitely!! 🙂
Thank you for sharing this list! I will keep an eye out for the sales!
You’re welcome! Happy shopping! 🙂
Thank you. You always have good ideas. (By the way, Michelle, Laurie at Hinterlands alerted me to the fact her comments might be landing in my spam, and I found a couple of yours there, too. So sorry that I have not been responding. I think it’s OK now.)
Thank you!
That’s ok. I understand. I have had a few going to spam recently. I guess WP just decides to do whatever it wants sometimes. 😀
What a terrific list, thanks for the crafts and decor alert, I love stacking up on supplies to have on hand especially when there’s a good deal LOL Since I’m not getting out to go to a store right now, I’m shopping online and the sales are there too. xoxo
Thank you so much! I agree about stocking up when they’re super cheap. I’m shopping online, too because I still don’t feel comfortable going out. 🙂
Awesome list Michelle!
Thank you!! 🙂
Ooo I wish I lived in the US for those Labor Day sales! Great suggestions, Michelle, and a good tip on Best Buy if you’re a student. It’s always good to get a deal! xx
Thank you so much! There’s some great deals here during Labor Day. 🙂
PS. Just wanted to let you know that your share icons on the left hand side don’t tag you on Twitter, it tags Shareaholic. You might want to look at adding your Twitter handle so it tags you in any shares 🙂 xx
Thank you for letting me know. I took it off because I can’t change it. Maybe because I have the free version?
I do not live in the US, seeing your wonderful lists makes me think about what is best to buy in certain months here. But I do not follow through. I guess I need a Michelle who lives in Aus, doing a fabulous job helping others ??.
Aww you made my day! ?
New sunbeds for the patio.
That sounds nice. A great way to relax. 🙂
They don’t Las long in Florida.
Michelle, your timely tips are always helpful. Wanting to be careful and safe, I have been using my Prime account on Amazon more. I have benefitted from discounts on certain products, and I can safely and patiently look for certain items.
Thank you so much! Yes, we’ve been doing most of our shopping online, even for groceries. That’s great that you’re staying safe while shopping and saving money! 🙂
Summer clothes sales usually start in August and there’s few things left in September, but if you look hard enough you can find some really good deals on summer clothes and shoes!
Thank you for sharing! I need summer clothes, so I’m going to start looking for some great deals. 🙂
I always learn something new reading your posts, Michelle! I knew of some of these but definitely not all, and I never even heard of the recalls! UGH! Need to keep up on this stuff more! Thanks so much!
I’m glad these posts are helpful! 🙂 I just found out about the recall myself not too long ago by accident. It happened to be on the bottom of my grocery receipt! 😀
Thank you for the list as always! We’ve been thinking about getting a bike for my daughter for Christmas. I need to go do some price checking!
Oh, how fun!! That will be such an exciting Christmas present. 😀
You know I’m a big fan of these lists of yours, Michelle! 🙂 I always look forward to seeing what you’ve come up with this time. Never am I disappointed!
Did you find any great Labor Day deals? I missed them entirely this year. Between money being a bit on the tight side, and just poor timing in general, we didn’t take advantage. In years past though – those Labor Day sales have been lifesavers! I saw some amazing buys on home appliances like you mentioned. Dang! If only! ha ha
I had no idea about September 29th being National Coffee Day! I’m so glad you mentioned this because I’ve had a coffee-related blog post in my draft folders for a long while. That might be the perfect opportunity. Do you have a favorite coffee?
Another awesome post, my friend. Thanks for always finding some incredible deals. I hope you found yourself at least one or two goodies you couldn’t pass up! ♥
We didn’t hit up the Labor Day sales this year. Unfortunately we had to buy appliances when they weren’t at their best deals because they went out. Isn’t that always the way it works? lol My mom and I spent Saturday in Floyd avoiding all the Labor Day traffic. You know how much I love the mountains! 😀
September 29 would be a great day for your coffee-related post! My favorite coffee is McCafe. There’s just something about that coffee that tastes so good!
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you enjoy these posts and find them helpful!
I’ll have to let my daughter know that coffee day and her birthday share the day!! She’ll be thrilled, she’s a coffee fanatic like her dad!
Great list!! We shopped at an under armor outlet over Labor Day weekend and everything was half off in the store plus I got an extra 20% off for first responder (substitute teacher) ..I was surprised they counted it but it was an awesome surprise!!
Oh neat! I hope she has a wonderful birthday! Maybe she needs a gift basket of coffee samples. ?
Wow! Sounds like you got the jackpot with the sale plus your discount!
Ohhh she’d like that!!
