Best Things to Buy in September

Summer may be coming to a close, but we can still enjoy the rest of September with some great deals! Check out this extensive list of the best things to buy in September to keep money in your pocket all year!

Summer is coming to an end this month, but we still have a month of warm weather to enjoy. There are still some great deals to be found this month, too. Some careful planning when it comes to your purchases can really help you save a lot of money.

Retailers are desperate to start clearing their shelves this month and next to get ready for the big holiday season. So look closely for big ticket items as well as smaller clearance items. You’ll find the best deals on Labor Day until the holiday deals start rolling in.

To save you some time, and money, I’ve put together a list of the best things to buy in September.

Labor Day Deals:

Apparel: Labor day is a great time to grab deals on summer clothing. Most stores have their own discounts, but you can expect to see up to 75% off at some stores, such as Belk and Gap Factory. Stores such as Old Navy and JC Penney are offering up to 50% off.

Large Appliances: If you’re looking to upgrade your large appliances, Labor Day is a great time to do so. Home Depot is offering up to 40% off select appliances and Lowe’s is having a similar sale. Don’t forget about Best Buy. Sometimes they offer deals with their sales, such as gift cards worth up to $300 with the purchase of some large appliances.

Mattresses: Close to Labor Day stores such as Big Lots, Macy’s, and JC Penney start offering great deals on mattresses. Even Home Depot is getting in on the deal this year.

Best Deals All Month

Summer craft supplies and home decor: Craft stores are starting to put their summer crafts and home decor items on sale. Micheal’s is having a huge sale with prices up to 80% off! Be sure to check Hobby Lobby and Joann for discounted summer items, too. Also, Kirkland’s (my favorite store!) has home decor and candles deeply discounted right now.

Work-from-home gear: A lot of people are still working from home right now and most students are doing school virtually from home. Look for discounts on monitors and laptops as well as cheap Chromebooks. Save more at Best Buy by signing up for Student Deals.

Back to school supplies: Normally August is the best month for these deals, however, this year looks a lot different for back to school. Since a lot of parents are unsure about when exactly school is starting back, we can expect back to school supplies to have even deeper discounts this month. Some office supply stores such as Staples and Office Depot/Office Max could have discounts as high as 90% off. Don’t forget about Target and Walmart for discounts on back to school supplies, too.

Cars: Car companies start releasing new models in September, so older models will be going on sale. You may not get all the latest and greatest updates, but you’ll be saving thousands on a new car. If you’re shopping for a car, September is a great month to buy an older model.

Bikes: Prices tend to drop on items when they are in low demand and bikes are no exception. Not a lot of people are riding bikes in the winter. But September is a great time to grab a great deal on a bike for next year. Also, think kids’ Christmas gifts!

Coffee: National Coffee Day is September 29! Be sure to watch out for freebies and deals on coffee at places such as 7-Eleven, Barnes & Noble, Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme, and Sheetz.

In-season produce: Fruits to buy in September are apples, cantaloupe, grapes, tomatoes, figs, mangoes, pomegranates, and persimmons. Fresh vegetables include corn, eggplant, green beans, butternut squash, cauliflower, lettuce, peppers, pumpkins, spinach, sweet potatoes, okra, and mushrooms.

Don’t forget about the recent onion and peach recall. Because of these recalls, this is a great time to support your local farmers so you know exactly where your fresh produce is coming from.

What’s on your shopping list this month? Are you looking for anything that’s on this list? Do you have other items that should go on the best things to buy in September list?
