Christmas Swag Using 2 Dollar Tree Mini Christmas Trees

You can make a beautiful Christmas Swag using 2 mini trees from Dollar Tree. Decorating your home on a budget has never been so fun!

Before I show you what I made for the December challenge, I want to share with you what Teresa at Through a Vintage Door made. She used the Dollar Tree mini Christmas tree to make the cutest tabletop tree! Check it out:

December’s DIY challenge is to take a mini Christmas Tree from Dollar Tree and make something with it. You may remember my last post where I used one of these mini trees to make a vertical Christmas swag to hang on a wall or a door. Today I’m going to make a different type of Christmas swag using two of the mini Christmas trees.

First of all, let me tell you that these mini trees are extremely hard to find. If you can get your hands on one, then you are super lucky! I went to three different Dollar Tree stores and they were all sold out. The closest one to me had a waiting list for these trees and they were calling people as the trees came in. A waiting list for mini Christmas trees!! Can you imagine?

Luckily my mom went to another Dollar Tree (which is a little over an hour from me) and finally found some. She grabbed four of them for me. Thanks Mom!!

Let me show you how I made a Christmas swag using two Dollar Tree mini Christmas trees for this month’s DIY challenge.

Christmas Swag

What you need:

• 2 mini Christmas trees from Dollar Tree
• Flowers
• Pip berries (or flower picks)
• Cable ties
• Spray paint or craft paint
• Ribbon

What you do:

Step 1

I painted my mini Christmas trees lightly with white spray paint. You do not have to paint your trees, I just did this to make it look like it was lightly dusted with snow. You can achieve the same look by dabbing craft paint on the branches with a sponge brush. Or you can brush some glue on the branches and dust with the fake snow.

Step 2

After painting your branches for the snowy look if you choose, put the bottom of the trees together with the ends side by side. Use a cable tie to hold them together.

Step 3

Place the pip berries or flower picks on each side of the Christmas swag.

Tie them to the mini trees using the cable ties.

Step 4

From a bunch of flowers, clip one or two stems off and put them on each side of the Christmas swag.

Tie them to the mini trees with cable ties to hold them in place.

Step 5

Make a bow to place in the middle of the Christmas swag. The bow hides the cable ties and the ends of the mini trees. I didn’t show the steps to making the bow because it gave me such a hard time. There are tons of videos on YouTube you can follow along with. Or you can go the easy way and just buy a bow. I chose to make one for my Christmas swag because I already had ribbon on hand and didn’t want to spend anything else on this project.

I got this ribbon years ago from Dollar Tree so I decided it was finally time to use it for something.

After your bow is complete, tie it to the center of the Christmas swag with the cable ties. If you purchase a bow, most of them have twist ties attached to make it easier.

I attached my Christmas swag to the top of the picture frame I made for my farmhouse fall wreath. I also used it to hold my red truck wreath, which I will be putting up for Christmas this year. I’m still not sure where I’m going to hang my Christmas swag yet.

This Christmas swag DIY was a lot of fun to put together and cost me $2 to make since I already had everything else on hand.
