Even though I love Thanksgiving, I rarely decorate for the holiday. After Halloween, I usually put my fall decorations back up and leave them until the day after Thanksgiving. That’s the day reserved for Black Friday shopping and Christmas decorating.

This year, however, I’ve been wanting to add more Thanksgiving decor to my home. I’ve seen some pretty Thanksgiving decor while stalking Pinterest and that got me motivated. And when I was challenged to create a Thanksgiving vignette with a glass jar DIY I knew I had to jump on board.

I’ve teamed up with some great DIY bloggers this month for a November DIY Challenge. We are to create a Thanksgiving vignette and our DIY is a glass jar or vase. I actually have two DIY’s to show you for this Thanksgiving vignette challenge!

November DIY Glass Jar Challenge

Thank you to Terry from Decorate and More with Tip for hosting! Be sure to check out her blog for some great DIY’s. And don’t forget to check out the other bloggers linked below who participated in this challenge as well.

What is a vignette?

In decorating, a vignette refers to a grouping of objects that create a focal point. This can be an easy and affordable way to add some pretty decor to a space in your home. For example, grouping your objects on a tray keeps them all together in one place. If you need to use the space that your vignette is taking up, then it can easily be removed since everything is together on the tray. Of course you don’t have to limit your items to a tray.

Glass jar challenge – Hurricane candle holder

For the glass jar part of the challenge, I chose to use the hurricane candle holder.

What you need:

Glass Candle holders for hurricane candle diy for Thanksgiving Vignette

What you do:

Paint the glass taper candle holder with the spray paint and let dry. After it’s dry, glue the hurricane vase to the candle holder with E6000 glue.

Paint the bottom glass candle holder - Thanksgiving Vignette

Wrap the jute string around the top of the glass candle holder and glue in place. Add a small flower and glue in place with hot glue.

Add jute string and a flower

I added some moss and a candle to my candle holder. That’s it! It cost less than $5 to make because I already had the paint, glue, flower, and jute string.

Now for the second DIY for my Thanksgiving vignette. This is another Dollar Tree DIY and once again cost under $5!

Fall Candle for Thanksgiving Vignette

What you need:

Dollar Tree battery powered candle

What you do:

Wrap the burlap around the candle and glue with hot glue in the back.

Wrap burlap around the candle

Add the single leaf and glue to the burlap.

Hot glue a leaf to the burlap

Glue the acorn to the leaf.

Hot glue the acorn to the leaf

That’s it! Now to add it to my Thanksgiving vignette.

I found the pitcher at a thrift store a few years ago for $3. The 2 pumpkins and the candle came from Dollar Tree.

Vignette for Thanksgiving November DIY Challenge

I found the 2 tall wooden candle sticks in the back of the vignette at a church sale last month. There were 4 in a bag for $2. The “thankful and blessed” pumpkin also came from Dollar Tree. The sunflowers were from Walmart.

Lit up with candles

The 2 signs hanging in the background were also from Dollar Tree.

This was such a fun challenge for November. I loved putting together this Thanksgiving vignette! I’m very happy with the way this turned out. It was very inexpensive and so easy to put together.

    1. Thank you! It’s hard to decorate too much right now because of all the renovation stuff going on. There’s constant dust and tools everywhere! But I need something pretty to look at. πŸ™‚

      1. I’m sure that would be hard!

    1. Thank you so much! I agree. Halloween and Christmas are everywhere, but not a lot for Thanksgiving.

  11. Very nice, as always. Thanksgiving does seem to get lost between Halloween and Christmas. These are great.

    1. Thank you so much! I agree. I always look forward to Thanksgiving, but the stores seem to forget it’s an important holiday to some.

  12. Very lovely! I bet the house seems so cozy afterwards! It’s always fun to collab with other bloggers 😊.

    1. Thank you so much! I have to keep most of my decorations confined to one area right now because of the renovation. So I see fall and Thanksgiving in the living room and tools in the kitchen and bathroom! πŸ˜€

      1. Hope the renovation is going well! πŸ˜‰

        1. Thank you! So far so good. 😊

  15. Like you I don’t decorate much for Thanksgiving. We are usually gone for the holiday. It looks like you distressed your candle base which I think is so pretty. You have given me an idea for another candle holder. Thanks for sharing!

These are all beautiful…I absolutely love decorating for fall, as much as Christmas even!

    1. Thank you! I do, too. Fall is when I want to do all of my crafting for some reason. πŸ™‚

  25. Another perfect winner from you, Michelle! πŸ™‚ I love how your mind works. I really do.

These colors are so warm and inviting. Just feels like home. When you put everything together – it looks far more expensive. Amazed as always by your talent for design πŸ˜‰

    1. Thank you so much! I see expensive things that I love and try to figure out how to do it for cheap. I just can’t bring myself to spend so much money on certain things. πŸ™‚

      1. Amen to that πŸ™‚ I completely understand how you feel! It is unbelievable what is being charged for some items these days…. Sticker shock is very real πŸ˜€

  26. suuuuuuper cute! I’m hoping to finally get my Thanksgiving decorations out today. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you! Have fun decorating!! πŸ˜€

  27. You always showcase the cutest decorations!
Thanksgiving itself is so underrated in my opinion and always seems to get overshadowed a bit by Christmas, but it deserves to be in the limelight as well πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much! πŸ™‚
I agree. It seems that the stores especially are more focused on Halloween and Christmas and completely forget about Thanksgiving.

  28. I love what you did with that space! It’s so pretty and festive πŸ˜€ <3 Love how so much of it was made with dollar store items!

    1. Thank you so much! I love using items from the dollar store. I can’t stay away! πŸ˜€

  29. I learned a new word today – Vignette!

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK but I love the decoration ideas – very easily adaptable to Harvest Festival

    1. Thank you! Yes, it would definitely be a great decoration for Harvest Festival as well. πŸ™‚

  30. adoringfamily

So pretty and I love the acorn touch. Pinning this!
Thank you for linking up w Creative Muster! Blessings to you xoxoxo Sharon

    1. Thank you so much!! πŸ™‚
I love the link up! It’s so fun seeing everyone’s creations.

  31. Charli Dee

Those vignettes are beautiful!! Before reading your post I didn’t even know what a vignette is! I learned something new! I love this challenge! There’s always so much focus on Halloween and Christmas decorating and shopping that I feel thanksgiving often gets looked over! πŸ˜‚ Awesome post!

    1. Thank you so much! I agree! Stores are so quick to get out Halloween stuff and then immediately put out Christmas. It’s so difficult to find anything for Thanksgiving. πŸ™‚

  32. Great projects Michelle! I’m going to try and remember this for Thanksgiving next year, since ours is in October. Thanks for sharing these!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜Ί

I love to hear from you!
