Natural Cleaning Supplies with Recipes

Natural cleaning supplies work just as well as big name brand cleaners, just without all the harsh chemicals.

Natural Cleaning Supplies with Recipes

I have been trying to get rid of almost all of the store bought cleaning products in my home for years. My daughter was diagnosed with asthma when she was about 5 years old so she couldn’t have any harsh chemical smells around her. Many of the cleaning supplies I have used in the past have caused major irritation to my throat and eyes, especially bleach. Some cleaning supplies have chemicals in them that have been known to cause cancer, and I would really love to keep that out of my house!

Over the years I have researched how to use natural homemade cleaning supplies. There are so many recipes for household cleaners, but I finally found the ones that work best for me. I also make my own carpet freshener, which makes my house smell so good! I am sharing three natural cleaning supplies recipes with you today – all purpose spray, mold and mildew remover, and carpet freshener.

All-Purpose Spray

DIY Natural Cleaning Supplies

Grab your farmhouse style cleaning cloth at my store!

This all purpose spray works amazing! It is one of my favorite natural cleaning supplies because I can use it on everything and I only have one bottle to carry though the house with me while cleaning. It works great on kitchen counters as well as in the bathroom. I even use this to clean my mirrors for a streak-free shine! There is no film left on the mirror from the essential oils I use in the spray.

Ingredients

Distilled White Vinegar
Water
Essential oils (I use lemon and tea tree)

Instructions

Add equal parts water and vinegar to a spray bottle. (I use 1 cup water and 1 cup vinegar.) Add 10-15 drops of each oil. Use less if the smell is too strong for you, use more if you want the smell to be stronger.

Mold and Mildew Spray

To use this as a mold and mildew spray, make exactly like the all-purpose spray, just leave out the water.

  • Vinegar is a natural acid that kills most mold spores and can also keep them from returning.
  • Since mold is a fungus, the tea tree essential oil works as a powerful antifungal that kills mold and mildew.
  • The lemon essential oil a powerful cleaner in that it is an antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal, and antimicrobial.

Natural Carpet Freshener

Ingredients

1-2 cups Baking soda
Essential oil (I use lavender)

Instructions

Pour baking soda in a small bowl, add 8-10 drops essential oil and stir to mix together. Pour mixture into a container with holes on the top so you can sprinkle it on your carpet. Parmesan cheese containers work well for this! I purchased a glass container from Dollar Tree to use for my carpet freshener.

  1. Hi Michelle! Thanks for sharing these natural cleaners, I have wanted to get rid of chemical cleaners but wasn’t sure what to use in place of them. Would I leave the carpet freshener on or vacuum it after? Okay, I admit I’m not too bright!😁. I enjoy all your tips!

    1. Thank you! I leave mine on for about 10-15 minutes while I’m cleaning something else, then vacuum over it. Glad to help! πŸ˜€

  2. Thanks for sharing I need this cause I’m always afraid my pets might be allergic or react badly to my regular cleaners (they SAY all natural but I still can’t pronounce anything on the back lol)

  4. We have been slowing shifting away from chemical cleaners and going with more natural ones as we use up what we have. Vinegar is such an excellent cleaner for so many things. I am going to have to make some of that carpet freshener.
