DIY Rustic Wooden Cross Wall Decor

Happy Wednesday!

I have some great news I want to share with you all! Last week I mentioned that I was a tad upset over all the things going wrong with our septic, house, car, etc. Last night my mother-in-law’s husband knocked on my door and told me that he brought a guy with him and they wanted to look at the roof. They did their thing and left. A little while later my husband came home from work and I told him they had been on the roof checking out all the damage. He had no idea they were coming. Later on my husband got a call and they told him that if he were to purchase the materials, they could fix the roof for less than $600! That’s thousands of dollars less than the last guy told us it would be! So I want to thank all of you who prayed for us and all the encouraging words. This is one step closer to moving, y’all!

Now let me get on with today’s DIY:

Rustic Wooden Cross Wall Decor.

Last week I showed you how I made a farmhouse-style Amazing Grace sign for only $3! I promised I would show you how I made the wooden cross wall decor, too. It’s so simple! Let’s get started.

Supplies

  • wood craft board (It had rope for hanging attached to it along the longer side, but I cut that off.)
  • burlap flower
  • buttons
  • muslin fabric
  • staple gun
  • glue gun
  • jute string (Dollar Tree has this)

Step 1

I hot glued the 2 buttons together, gluing the smaller one on top of the larger one. Then I glued them both to the center of the burlap flower.

Step 2

I didn’t really measure out the fabric, I just laid it on the board and folded the side edges in. I folded the top and bottom parts over the board and stapled them onto the back. Then I just trimmed up the fabric.

Step 3

I did the same thing again going the other way on the board. This piece of fabric is a little wider, but not by much. Again, I didn’t measure it. I just eyeballed how I wanted it to look.

Step 4

I then tied the jute string around the middle of both fabric and tightened it up a bit to make it into a cross. I tied it off and hot glued it.

Step 5

I hot glued the burlap flower with the buttons over the jute string to hide it.

Step 6

The last thing I did was staple the rope back onto the board. The rope was originally hanging on the side, but I wanted it to be on the end to make the board longer.

That’s it! Another super easy and thrifty decor DIY! I have my rustic wooden cross wall decor hanging in my living room by the front door. I placed the Amazing Grace sign above it and I think they look great together!
