A cheap and easy way to give a thrift store or yard sale footstool a cute makeover – farmhouse style.
I wrote about this footstool makeover last year, but I wanted to update it.
Story of the Footstool
I found this cute little footstool at a church yard sale years ago and I just loved it. Something made me think I didn’t need it, though. I picked it up, looked it over, and put it down. I walked away and looked at other pieces of furniture. The footstool caught my eye again, so of course I had to go back to it and give it another look. Again I walked away. And again it caught my eye. Third time’s a charm I guess because that footstool make it’s way home with me.
I really did not like the fabric on this footstool. I think that’s what made me think I didn’t need it. It wasn’t exactly my favorite pattern, it felt weird, it was a tad dirty, and it smelled a little bit.
What I Did
After removing the top of the footstool, I took the fabric off. It was stapled underneath to the top of the stool, so I just removed the staples. And look what I found:
More fabric!!! I’m guessing the owner of this footstool didn’t like the fabric it came with so they decided to put more on top of it.
The fabric that I had to cover the top of the footstool with came from my mom. I loved this fabric because it reminded me of a pillow my granddaddy had when I was little. It was filled with duck feathers and I thought it was the neatest thing ever. I loved the way it settled under my head as I laid on it. I loved that sometimes a little feather would make it’s way out of the fabric. I loved how it always stayed cold. Needless to say, I knew this fabric would be perfect for my footstool makeover.
I spray painted the bottom of the footstool white, so it would match the furniture in my bedroom. After the paint dried, I put the top back on.
I’m so happy with how it turned out! It looks so cute under my desk in my bedroom!
