DIY Window Frame with Wreath

A few weekends ago my mom and I went to a rummage sale and I picked up this picture. I only wanted the wooden frame so I could make a “window” out of it. There was a handwritten note on the back of the picture written to the owner stating the year it was made (in the 70’s) and that it was hand drawn in pencil. The artist has great talent! I only paid $3 for this!

I only bought the picture for the frame, so let me show you what I did with it.

First of all, I bought this contact paper at Walmart, but I’m not entirely happy with it. I wanted more of a wooden look. Other than white, this was the only plain color they had. I will look online for the wooden look contact paper later on.

I took the cardboard backing off of the frame and measured it on the backside of the contact paper.

I attached it to the cardboard. It was easy to do since it is peel and stick.

I put the cardboard back onto the frame. I taped it on because I threw the little metal pieces away that were holding it together to begin with.

This is what it looks like from the front all put back together.

I hung the wreath that I made here on the front of my new frame.

I hung it up on the wall behind my couch in the living room.

I also decided to replace the wreathes inside the tobacco baskets with these cute little signs I found at Dollar Tree. I did not really want that many wreathes on one wall.

That’s it! Super simply and totally cute!

Have a blessed day!

  1. I love this. I’m a frame shopper too. Thrift stores are my creative friend but my handbag foe. 🙂 Great project. I may do something similar. If I do I’ll link back to you and your “I did it first” project. 😀

I love to hear from you!
